Works planned on Blue Rock Lake's walking track this summer

Visitors to Blue Rock Lake will benefit from new erosion control works that will protect the foreshore track – ensuring continued access and supporting the lake’s health.

The Blue Rock Lake Foreshore Stabilisation and Community Path Renewal works will require the track to be closed from Monday, 9 February. We will need to close the track for seven to 10 days, depending on the weather, and we appreciate the community’s patience while we work to complete the job.

Water levels around this time are typically lower, which will allow crews to rehabilitate 130 metres of eroded shoreline.

A $43,000 investment from Regional Development Victoria’s Tiny Towns Fund will enable the placement of large rocks along the track edge to form a natural ‘beach’ – shielding the foreshore and path from wave and weather impacts.

The project is a partnership between the Latrobe Catchment Landcare Network, Southern Rural Water, West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, and the Tanjil Valley Landcare Group.

We will notify the local community through flyers and signage around the lake.

The work will help safeguard both environmental and recreational values at Blue Rock Lake for years to come. Once the stabilisation is complete, Tanjil Valley Landcare Group will lead a community planting day to revegetate the area with native riparian, ephemeral and aquatic species.

The plantings will help create a stronger, healthier foreshore and will provide fresh habitat for fish and wildlife.
