Weed treatment information for the Macalister Irrigation District

We plan to complete our annual submerged weed control treatment in irrigation channels across the Macalister Irrigation District in November. 

Spring and early summer is the most effective time to manage submerged weeds because they are at their most vigorous at this time of year. 

Removing submerged weeds ensures our irrigation channels are operating at maximum capacity and can deliver water to you as efficiently as possible.

We will be treating submerged weeds with a product called Magnacide H. This product is registered by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority and is used widely by water corporations in water channels across Australia. 

Our trained team will be working with an expert contractor to treat irrigation channels under strict controls and monitoring protocols.

Important Information 

  • Do not allow stock or pets access to treated water for 72 hours after the treatment has ceased.
  • Ensure no human contact during this period.
  • No orders will be delivered in this period.  
  • Please schedule orders around this shutdown. 


Notification of Changes  

If the scheduled weed treatment cannot proceed as planned due to high demand for irrigation water, weather conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances, impacted customers will receive an SMS notification advising of the change. 

Additionally, an update will be posted on Waterline where revised treatment dates and further information can be found on our website.  

We may have to re-treat some areas later in the season and will notify impacted customers.
