Main Northern Channel damage from wombats

Wombats have burrowed along the Main Northern Channel and damaged it, causing a leak to a section of the channel approximately 400 meters North off Brewers Hill Road, Maffra.

Wombats are a protected species and we need to consider this in our management of the current repairs and any future measures.

We have engaged a contractor to undertake the works, and are aiming to have the channel restored by end of the day on Monday, 13 October. In the event we discover additional wombat cavities or there is adverse weather, we may require more time for repair. We will advise customers as soon as possible in the event of a delay to the repairs.

The water supply to the affected part of the Main Northern Channel has been reduced temporarily to enable customers to have as much supply as possible while not adversely affecting neighbouring land owners until the repairs are completed.

We’re working closely with impacted customers to prioritise and fulfil as many orders as possible during the works. Customers who have orders in place will be notified when their order is available.
