Bacchus Marsh Spur 2 works: what you need to know

Southern Rural Water’s infrastructure delivers the water that powers the Bacchus Marsh Irrigation District to produce vital food and fibre for Melbourne and across Victoria.

We are upgrading critical pipeline sections on the Spur 2 section of the irrigation network to ensure continued reliable flows of water to producers in the district.

The works will be done by a suitably qualified contractor and may require us to temporarily close small sections of public pathways and implement local traffic management. We will work closely with our contractor to minimise impacts to the local environment and residents.

Works will be undertaken at the end of irrigation season in 2026, during non-supply periods outlined in our winter roster to minimise disruption to customers.

Overview of works:

  • Pipeline investigation will be undertaken using nondestructive techniques, with targeted excavation for removal and replacement at three locations near Fisken Street, Bacchus Marsh.
  • The renewal works will be done in two stages with stage one taking place between 4 to 8 May and stage two between 22 June and 3 July. Note: our contractors and SRW staff will be onsite before and after these dates to conduct pre-works and post-works activities.
  • Works will be completed during business hours and any noise restrictions managed in line with local council by-laws.
  • We are authorised to undertake works near the Werribee River and have secured the required permits.
  • We will erect tree protection zones to minimise impacts to trees of significance and will manage works in line with environmental regulations to prevent run off into local waterways.
  • There will be an arborist onsite at Location 2 to supervise the excavation works and ensure minimal damage to tree roots.
