The groundwater allocation for the Deutgam Water Supply Protection Area (WSPA) for this irrigation season (1 July 2026 – 30 June 2027) is 25%. This limit applies to both permanent and traded groundwater. Exceeding the 25% limit constitutes a breach of licence conditions unless Southern Rural Water announces an official variation.
Southern Rural Water is undertaking additional groundwater monitoring throughout the season and will review conditions monthly. If monitoring indicates an increased risk to the aquifer or groundwater conditions, allocation settings may need to be reviewed to protect the long–term sustainability of the groundwater.
Southern Rural Water introduced groundwater allocation rules for the Deutgam aquifer in 2017-18 to better protect the aquifer and give customers more groundwater security.
