Southern Rural Water (SRW) conducted an online auction for unallocated winterfill water from the Mitchell River last week, involving 24 eligible bidders.
- A total volume of 1,990 megalitres (ML) was sold across 36 lots, ranging in volume from 30ML to 100ML. All lots had multiple bidders. Successful bids ranged from $630 to $841 per ML with an average price of $733 per ML.
- The auction was the result of a process that began at the end of 2020, where applicants were assessed for their eligibility to hold take and use licences on the Mitchell River and its tributaries, under section 51 of the Water Act (1989).
- They were then invited to participate in the online auction.
