Southern Rural Water has announced that the Melton Reservoir recreation area has reopened for public access.
The area is situated on Exford Road and includes a picnic and barbecue area. It is open to public access between 8.30am and 4.30pm daily.
“The recreational area has been closed for some time due to two large projects – major upgrade works on the nearby dam wall, and replacing the conduit out of the reservoir,” said Manager Water Supply West, Edward Smith.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused, but those projects were critical to the operation of the reservoir, which supplies water to the Werribee Irrigation District.”
He reminded users of the recreational area that they must carry their rubbish home with them, and that swimming, camping, firearms and horses are not permitted. Dogs must be on leads at all times.
Boating on Melton Reservoir is restricted to members of the Melbourne Runabout and Speed Boat Club, which has strict controls to ensure safe boating on such a narrow water body. There is no other boating access in this area because of the steep banks and abutment to private land.
