UNBUNDLING OF WATER RIGHTS

INTRODUCTION

On 1 July 2008 water rights and diversion licences on regulated water systems in southern Victoria will be unbundled. These are the:

• Macalister Irrigation District, and regulated diversion licences on the Macalister and Thomson Rivers and Rainbow Creek; and
• Bacchus Marsh Irrigation District, Werribee Irrigation District and regulated diversion licences on the Werribee River.

At this stage, unbundling does not apply to other diversion licences, to groundwater licences or to recycled water.

Unbundling is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to the National Water Initiative to improve how Australia measures, plans for, prices, and trades water.
