Vic Emergency has issued warnings of widespread flooding across Latrobe, Thomson and Macalister and Werribee catchments.

Since 9am Wednesday 9 June 2021, rainfall totals varying from 50-170mm have been recorded across all catchments. More rain is forecast during Thursday.

Moderate to Major flood levels are current and are rising.

Latrobe

Major flooding is occurring in the Tanjil River at Tanjil Junction. Moderate flooding is occurring in the Morwell River. Additional areas of minor to moderate flooding expected throughout the Latrobe River catchment during Thursday.

Latrobe River upstream of Yallourn:

Minor flooding is likely to develop along the Latrobe River upstream of Yallourn during Thursday.

 

Moe River:

Minor flooding is likely to develop along the Moe River during Thursday morning.

Tanjil River:

Major flooding is occurring along the Tanjil River. Further rises likely during Thursday.

Morwell River:

Moderate flooding is occurring along the Morwell River, further stream rises possible during Thursday morning.

Latrobe River Yallourn to Traralgon Creek:

Moderate flooding is expected along the Latrobe River Yallourn to Traralgon Creek.

The Latrobe River at Thoms Bridge is expected to exceed the moderate flood level (5.00m) during Thursday.

Thomson River

Thomson River to Cowwarr Weir:

Moderate flood is occurring and rising rapidly. May exceed Major Flood levels.

  • Cooper Ck is likely to exceed the minor flood level (2.30 m) early Thursday morning and may reach the major flood level (5.00 m) late Thursday morning.
  • U/S Cowwarr Weir currently at 4.56 metres and rising. Moderate flood level (4.50 m) are occurring and may reach the major flood level (5.50 m) Thursday afternoon.

Thomson River Cowwarr Weir to Wandocka:

Major flooding will occur along the Thomson River Cowwarr Weir to Wandocka throughout Thursday morning.

Thomson River downstream of Wandocka:

Major flooding may occur along the Thomson River downstream of Wandocka.

  • Sale Wharf is currently at 1.12 metres and steady. Is expected to exceed the minor flood level (2.40 m) early Thursday afternoon, exceed the moderate flood moderate flood level (3.00 m) Thursday afternoon and may reach the major flood level (4.00 m) late Thursday afternoon.
Macalister River

Major flooding will occur for Macalister River upstream of Glenmaggie Thursday morning.

Significant inflows to Lake Glenmaggie are expected over the coming days. Some releases downstream of the reservoir may be required over the coming days.
