Southern Rural Water (SRW) has increased allocations for all for customers in the Macalister Irrigation District and for diverters on the Thomson and Macalister Rivers and Rainbow Creek by 10%.
General Manager Water Supply, John Tesoriero, said this will bring the 2010/11 seasonal allocation up to 65% of high-reliability water shares. “This increase in allocation is a result of the recent rain, which resulted in increased inflows into Lake Glenmaggie over the past two weeks,” he said.
“While SRW and the Macalister Customer Consultative Committee are hopeful that spring rains will see the reservoir fill and spill, this announcement will allow customers to plan their future water requirements,” said John.
Whilst customers in the Macalister Irrigation District cannot use their allocation on farm until the start of the irrigation season on 15 August 2010, they can trade their allocation. Customers on the Thomson and Macalister Rivers have been able to access their allocation from 1 July 2010.
SRW will review available water resources and making an allocation announcement every two weeks as the season progresses. The next allocation announcement will be on 10 August 2010.
