Macalister Irrigation Area – Opening Water Allocation of 55% for the 2010/11 Irrigation Season - 2/7/2010  Printer Friendly

2 July 2010

On Thursday 1 July 2010, Southern Rural Water (SRW) announced an opening allocation of 55% of high reliability water share for the 2010/11 season.

This allocation is for customers in the Macalister Irrigation District and for Diverters on the Thomson and Macalister Rivers and Rainbow Creek.

SRW General Manager Water Supply, John Tesoriero said this opening allocation is good news for irrigators; the level of Lake Glenmaggie at the completion of the season was relatively high at 35%, which has helped to boost this seasons opening allocation.

“Our allocation policy means that we declare the opening allocation on all available water resources”.

“While SRW and the Macalister Customer Consultative Committee (MCCC) are hopeful that spring rains will see the reservoir fill and spill, this announcement will allow customers to plan their water requirements” said Mr Tesoriero.

Whilst customers in the Macalister Irrigation District cannot use their allocation on farm until the start of the irrigation season on the 15 August 2010, they can trade their allocation. Customers on the Thomson and Macalister Rivers and Rainbow Creek can access their allocation from the 1 July 2010.

Mr Tesoriero further explained “that SRW will be reviewing available water resources and making allocation announcements every two weeks as the season progresses. The next allocation announcement will be on 13 July 2010”.

For more information about the allocation or placing your water order please contact your planner or Southern Rural Water on 1300 139 510.
