| Southern Rural Water is celebrating its longest ever period – 14 months - without a staff member being significantly injured at work.
“This is a terrific achievement, and a first in the 15 year history of the corporation,” said Managing Director Clinton Rodda.
“Since our last recorded lost-time injury in March 2009, it means that not one staff member has suffered from a lost time or medical treatment injury at work and been unable to attend the next day.
“This result is a credit to all staff and managers, whose safety prevention efforts have included identifying, eliminating and reducing risks at work.”
Mr Rodda said that in the past year, Southern Rural Water has closed out or rectified 419 identified workplace hazards, undertaken 28 workplace inspections and engaged safety consultants to complete an audit of its OHS systems. Compliance items identified by the audit were addressed promptly and in total, 158 best practice recommendations were received, with 63% adopted and implemented to date.
“Southern Rural Water aims for an incident-free and zero-harm workplace.
“With this result, we are well on the way. However, we cannot afford to take our focus off working safely even for a moment.
“Currently we are revising our OHS strategy which will help us to improve focus on key priorities, programs and systems to better manage our OHS related risks.”
