| Southern Rural Water officially opened its $5.5 million upgrade to the Pykes Creek Reservoir yesterday.
The opening took place at the reservoir, attended by local authorities, landowners and other groups.
Managing Director Clinton Rodda said the works bring the dam into line with modern standards.
“Investigations showed that while the dam is performing well, and is in good condition, it needed to be upgraded to improve its flood capacity and its defences against erosion through the embankment,” he said.
“Pykes Creek Reservoir is now over 100 years old. These works will ensure that the dam continues to operate safely and remains an important water supply asset well into the future.”
Project Manager Joe Matthews described what was done during the upgrade, and also provided tours of the works after the opening.
Mr Rodda thanked local landowners and members of the public for their patience whilst the project was completed, and the many contractors and local authorities who contributed to the project.
