Southern Rural Water has announced an allocation increase for all customers in the Macalister Irrigation District and diverters on the Thomson and Macalister Rivers and Rainbow Creek.
General Manager Water Supply, John Tesoriero, said the allocation for the area is now 100% of high reliability water shares (HRWS) and 45% of low reliability water shares (LRWS), which is an increase of 10% LRWS.
“Our allocation policy means we allocate all available water to irrigators. Because scattered showers over the last month has reduced the demand for water, and inflows into Glenmaggie have increased, we have now lifted the allocation as we have more water available than we can physically deliver before the end of the irrigation season,” he said.
“We would like to remind customers that are supplied through the Macalister Irrigation District channel system that the season will finish on the 15 May, and that all applications for water trading will need to be placed before 8am on the 5 May and last irrigation orders no later than 8.00am on the 8 May.” said Mr Tesoriero.
“Customers who access supply directly from the Thomson / Macalister River or the Rainbow Creek (river diverters) can continue to irrigate through to 30 June 2010.”
John said Southern Rural Water is reviewing available water every two weeks as the season progresses. Our last allocation announcement will be on 4 May.
