For sale: Permanent water shares in the Macalister - 6/4/2010  Printer Friendly

6 April 2010

Automation projects funded by Southern Rural Water have resulted in water savings in the Macalister Irrigation District which will soon be available for purchase.

This water came from increased efficiencies achieved through Southern Rural Water’s Main Eastern and Main Southern Water Savings Project in 2005/06, which included the installation of FlumeGates at major channel regulation sites.

Southern Rural Water is now having the volume of water saved independently audited. Once confirmed and approved the first part of these savings, 1125 megalitres (ML), will be auctioned on 4 June at the Maffra Recreational Reserve.

This is expected to be the first in a series of four auctions to be held annually.

“Water purchased at this auction can improve security and production capability for an irrigator,” said Southern Rural Water Managing Director Clinton Rodda.

Proceeds from the sale will cover the costs of the water savings projects already undertaken, and provide further entitlements in the district which helps keep price rises down.

A total of 750ML of high reliability and 375ML of low reliability water shares will go under the hammer. The lots will be sold to the highest bidder in 50ML lots.
The successful bidder must advise the auctioneer how much of the 50ML lot they wish to purchase at the nominated price. The remaining volume will then go back into the ‘pool’ to make up additional 50ML lots. The auction will continue until all 50ML lots are sold. The last lot may be less than 50ML.
Successful bidders will be required to sign a contract of sale and pay a 10% deposit at the auction. They must pay the balance by 24 June 2010 to receive the 2010/11 season opening allocation.
All water shares purchased at this auction will be subject to any seasonal allocations, supply and/or delivery conditions that may be applied across the Macalister Irrigation District. Normal trading rules will apply to the shares.
The auction is open to everyone however those interested in bidding must register by 28 May 2010. Registration forms are available from Southern Rural Water’s Maffra office or can be downloaded from www.srw.com.au. Registration is free of charge. Late registrations will not be accepted.
Information sessions will be held prior to the auction at:

• Bundalaguah Hall on Monday, 19 April at 1pm
• Denison Hall on Tuesday, 20 April at 1pm
• Tinamba Hall on Tuesday, 20 April at 7pm
• Boisdale Hall on Wednesday, 21 April at 7pm
