Southern Rural Water has announced an allocation increase for all customers in the Macalister Irrigation District and diverters on the Thomson and Macalister Rivers and Rainbow Creek.
General Manager Water Supply, John Tesoriero, said the allocation for the area is now 100% of high reliability water shares (HRWS) and 20% of low reliability water shares (LRWS), which is an increase of 10% LRWS.
“The scattered showers of recent days have reduced the demand for water, while flows into Glenmaggie have increased. This has provided water that we have been able to convert into allocation,” he said.
“If any irrigators don’t think they need this extra water, I strongly urge them to trade it to others in the community.”
John said Southern Rural Water is reviewing available water every two weeks as the season progresses. The next allocation announcement will be on 6 April.
